University of Ottawa Heart Institute Telethon
For the second year in a row, an eager contingent of Soloway Wright-ers put their combined 500 years of experience answering telephones and writing legibly to good use at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Telethon on March 23rd, 2014. Our hearty group (pun intended) took pledges from callers during the final two hours of the annual event that saw the Heart Institute raise nearly $7,000,000. Decked out in matching bright red shirts that did not go unnoticed, we took over an entire bank of phones in the studio. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting with the incredibly generous pledgers from the community and gawking at the local CTV celebrities working the event (and yes, we have forgiven midday news anchor Michael O’Byrne for referring to us as Solomon Wright during the broadcast!). Not to mention getting the occasional screen time.
Later, we watched with pride as our very own Lawrence Soloway, the chair of the Heart Institute’s board, deftly worked the big desk with Graham Richardson, Carol Anne Meehan, Dr. Roberts, Jim Orban, and Dr. Mesana. And Ursula Melinz and Iwona Albrecht did a wonderful job presenting a giant novelty cheque from the Firm to the Heart Institute for $5,000.
We finished a great day with a group pizza party graciously hosted by our amazing organizer, Clare Warren.
Thank you to all of the volunteers who trained us and kept us on track. We’re already looking forward to doing it again next year!
