History

The firm today known as Soloway, Wright LLP began its existence in 1945 when the late Hyman Soloway opened his law practice with the late John Mirsky.  The firm was founded as a commercial, criminal and litigation firm, significant practices which (with the exception of criminal law) continue to this day.

The firm’s strength in real estate and corporate matters is near legendary in the community, comprising, by the mid-1960’s the largest real estate practice in Ottawa, by far, as a result of the merger of the largest and second largest real estate practices of Soloway, Wright and Greenberg, Gorsky, respectively.

The firm's strength in real estate is equally matched by its strength in litigation and personal injury, and in employment and labour, a practice begun
"by the mid-1960’s the largest real estate practice in Ottawa"
by the late Maurice Wright.

Over the course of its history the firm and its commitment to training and fostering quality lawyers has had a significant impact on the development of many of the high-level sophisticated legal practices in the City of Ottawa. It is no exaggeration to say that there is likely at least one lawyer at the pinnacle of his or her field in nearly every major firm in Ottawa that began their career as either an articling student, associate or partner at Soloway, Wright. A surprisingly large number of well known boutique firms in this City were spun off from, or began their practice as part of, Soloway, Wright.

Over the last 63 years, Soloway, Wright has also produced more than its fair share of judges: at least nine former partners of the firm have been appointed to the Superior, Provincial and Tax Courts of the province, two of which such individuals became Senior Regional Justices.

Soloway, Wright has been and continues to be, a significant and central part of the legal landscape in the City of Ottawa, its 63 years a mere prelude to the years to come.
